ACT Programs

“The ACT is a test that no high school student looks forward to. However, it is a test that can be a little less painful with the right help and guidance. My experience with John is one that has been extremely impactful. Starting off with scores in the mid 20’s and achieving a 32 on my worst section personally (English) is a testament to the excellent methods and ability John takes when helping someone study for the test. His ability to tailor each lesson to specific areas that need help is crucial to success. For example, his method of questioning my answer to a question allowed me to explain why I chose something and provided me with the ability to reason information on each section more accurately and efficiently. His positive and genuine attitude toward his students is a key quality, and I would highly recommend John as an ACT tutor.”

The ACT tests a student’s college readiness across four sections: English, Mathematics, Reading, and Science. There is also an optional Writing (essay) portion, which some universities make mandatory for their applicants. The ACT requires quick recall across a broad range of subject matter, putting a premium on reading comprehension and pacing.

Every student’s ACT program starts with a full-length diagnostic exam. We examine each question that a student answers incorrectly in order to pinpoint knowledge gaps. Next, we select the lessons that address these gaps and prioritize them based on their likelihood of appearing on the official ACT exam. Our skills-based ACT curriculum is grounded in four pedagogical principles that ensure a student builds strong foundational skills, masters test taking strategies, and practices applying these techniques for maximum confidence and accuracy. Our curriculum is designed with the often-challenging time constraints of the ACT in mind, and our tutors use their expertise to supplement our lessons with time management strategies that allow our students to work as efficiently as possible.
