    About Matt

At the University of Chicago, Matt swam for four years and earned Honors for his senior thesis paper. Matt has since tutored across a variety of tests and platforms, with his primary specialties including SAT, ACT, ISEE, SSAT, and HSPT. He has tutored in a wide variety of settings, from 1-on-1 to small group lessons to classroom SAT courses, and to a wide variety of students, from Chicago public school students to international students.

Matt likes to take a lighthearted approach to tutoring to reduce stress and facilitate student engagement. He believes in building up students’ confidence in their own abilities so they are ready to take on any challenge on test day. But don’t let his laid-back demeanor fool you! He takes test prep seriously and will keep students on their toes with questions designed to get them to think through their answers and rethink old test-taking habits.

He has also spent time as a high school textbook writer, gaining an inside-out perspective on curriculum design, pedagogy, and test assessment question design. While Matt has an extensive English and reading background, he also deeply loves tutoring math. Matt likes to combine an approach of re-grounding his students in foundational formulas and principles they may have learned in earlier math classes with teaching them tips and tricks that prove useful on all kinds of problems. Matt brings this varied experience to tutoring sessions, aiming to demystify standardized test questions with his students.
