    About Zachary

Growing up and attending university in the Upper Midwest, Zachary is quick to point out that even the coldest day in Los Angeles is warm by his standards. In an effort to escape the frigid temperatures, Zachary spent a great deal of his collegiate career indoors conducting research on the Visual system in a Cognitive Neuroscience lab (with another year tucked away studying Evolutionary Biology). After graduating summa cum laude, Zachary decided to leave the Midwest and move to Los Angeles (the weather may or may not have played a significant role in that decision).

Since moving to L.A., Zachary has spent the past few years helping students reach their academic and college admissions exam goals. He has individually tutored over 100 students and has also led exam prep classroom courses. Employing anecdotes, analogies, and alliterations, he focuses on building up fundamental skills while also getting students to speak the language of the test. He relishes every incredulous “That’s it?” when students successfully answer questions they initially thought were beyond their abilities. Zachary has had students score a 36 in every section of the ACT, sometimes with starting section scores even 10 points below perfect. He once helped a student raise her ACT Science score 7 points and her ACT Reading score 8 points in just one 90-minute session each.

When he’s not tutoring, Zachary enjoys writing, reading, watching films and stand-up comedy, and having his loyalty tested by the ever-terrible Minnesota Timberwolves basketball team.
