Hurricane Harvey is expected to make landfall late tonight or early tomorrow morning along the Gulf coast of Texas. The looming storm has forced the College Board to preemptively cancel the August SAT at a number of locations in Texas.

As a student, what should you do?

The first thing you should do is check this page on the College Board website to see if your testing center is listed as closed. The list is organized by state in alphabetical order. If your exam is canceled, it will be rescheduled for a later date. At this time, most rescheduled tests will happen on September 16. If your testing center is listed as closed and no makeup date is scheduled, the College Board asks that you be patient—the College Board will contact you as soon as a makeup date is put on the calendar.

We advise that you continue to check the test center closings page until the morning of the test. The College Board will also report closings to local media outlets (radio and TV stations), which will spread the word. Of course, monitor the weather reports as well.

Although these might be unlucky circumstances, don’t let them get to you! Things happen. If you are ready for the test this week, you will definitely be ready again in a few weeks. Most importantly, stay safe!

Update: The CB is offering free October SAT registration for all students “who are experiencing hardship and/or displacement due to hurricane [Harvey] and are in an area designated by FEMA.” Additionally, these students will receive CSS Profile fee waivers. If a student is already registered for the October SAT, he should call the SAT’s customer service line for a refund.
